Guerlain Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder for Face & Body

Guerlain holiday is always all kinds of gorgeous but I think they've upped the ante with the new Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder for Face and Body. What makes this so special is they've used a variation on the truly iconic Vol de Nuit original bottle and scented the powder with the  fragrance. So it doesn't simply shimmer, it smells amazing as well. And that  teal glass? It calls for an antique vanity to display it's beautiful self .

Vol de Nuit is an elegant, dry green floral with a nice bit of iris and  a touch of vanilla. Here in the powder, it's very light . You get definite scent but nothing strong. The shimmer is a pale, barely there  pink with multi iridescent sparkles.

Vol de Nuit Perfume Shimmer Powder will sell for $ 87.00 in November.  It's a treat for sure, but one that you surely deserve to have on your  list.

Guerlain Holiday 2011- Belle de Nuit

Guerlain Holiday brings, as it often does, some  beautiful, collector worthy items. There are also  2 new Rouge Automatiques. Most exciting to me- The Vol de Nuit shimmer powder. It's not simply a shimmery powder, it's scented with Vol de Nuit and comes in a bottle reflecting the iconic original. If it's scented, then I want it.

Rouge Automatique:

Limited Edition Shades:

•169 Flirt d’un Jour (A soft and luminous pink, evocative of passionate kisses)

•170 Nuit d’Amour (A surprising black red that reveals an intense plum color on the lips)

Eye Quad Limited Edition : 10 Les Ombres de Nuit

Parure de Nuit Pressed Powder & Blush  $ 67
Not only  beautiful for blush and soft color but scented with violet.

Vol de Nuit Perfumed Shimmer Powder for Face & Body $87

Shalimar Parfum Initial

My first thought on Shalimar Parfum Initial- Stunning. That word sums it all up. Any update on inconic scent like Shalimar worries. And full disclosure, even though I admire the genius of Shalimar and am mad crazy for all things Guerlain, the original is not a favorite of mine. Just simply not me ( I'm not much for  vanilla ). Not so for Parfum Initial . This I love .

Shalimar Parfum Initial is a truly feminine scent,  not girly , but not so sophisticated as to be above it all. It has great sillage and lasting power and makes me want  to sniff my wrists all day.

It's Rose and Iris in the beginning with a  nice big hit of the Iris-powder and root.  There's a a little of the original's  Vanilla,  and then  lots of Tonka  at the drydown, which brings in the legendary "Guerlainade" that marks Guerlain fragrances  as their own.   Parfum Initial blessedly keeps the Iris note all along giving it a slightly dry and powdery feel  of softness at the drydown .

Shalimar Parfum Initial is available now at  Neiman Marcus and Saks  for 2 oz at $84.00 and 1 oz at $ 67.00

My Summer Staples

Summer brings it's own special makeup , skincare and accessories. With my oily , perspiring skin, nothing heavy will do  and I like to get a bronzed glow on.   I  also love big bracelets as opposed to necklaces that sit on a warm neck this time of year.

Here are some of my every day staples of summer. Links lead back to my original review if there was one.

Havaianas- I used to think what's all the fuss about these flip flops? Then I got a pair. Now I have 4 and feel like I need many more. Far more sturdier than most and  very comfortable .

Guerlain Terracotta LipGloss- They release these in summer for a reason, they're totally right for the season. Usually they have SPF , unfortunately this time they don't. But the new bright coral shade is sheer and juicy,  and really not overly bright.  Perfect for a  pop of color. Still using last  year's more neutral bronze shade as well.  Doesn't hurt either that the packaging is so hot.

Dusting Powder- I live for dusting powder when it's hot. They refresh, cool and add light scent. Right now I am loving Caswell Massey's Lilac and Honeysuckle scents and Penhaligon's Violetta ( when do you ever see violet powder ? I've hoarded my tin for years now).

Citrus Fragrances- As much as I love fragrance, when it's really hot I can't do the heavier scents. I adore citrus always  but especially in summer. There are too many to show all of here, but Dior Escale a Pondicherry and Acqua Di Parma Arancia di Capri are two tops favs. Lancome's new O d'Azur  and Annick Goutal's Eau de Hadrien and Ninfeo Mio are  others that get a lot of use.

MAC Paint Pots- Cream shadow rarely  if ever lasts on me  but Paint Pots really work well. Better than powders often.  They are easy  and look great. Favorite  shade is  Indianwood.
Chanel Bronzer- I have two season's past version but they've released  one this year too. What makes this bronzer special is the bands of color. Just a hint of shimmer  and not too dark. You can skip the darkest ones if needed ( I  usually do) and just swipe across the shades that look best on you. I use the bottom ones for a nice light tan look.

Ray Ban Wayfarers- I wore these when they were cool the first time, I wore them when they weren't in style  and I wear them now that they are back again. I've never stopped loving  my Wayfarers and that's that. (  But somehow they got left out of the picture).

Clinique Acne Solutions Foundation- Kept my skin in top shape last summer, helping to hold back the oilies  and acne . It'll be back in the regimen this summer too. No messing with perfection.

Sunscreen (of course)- Hawaiian Tropic  Sheer Touch SPF 50 , this really holds up in water, best I've used for that. Anything with Mexoryl in it. It's the best SPF. Currently finishing my Ambre Solaire from France and have an Ombrelle waiting to be opened. For face- Clarins UV Plus HP  -no moisture, just SPF 40 , mineral and plant based. You never even know it's on. Skinceuticals Physical Fusion SPF 50 is my second fav  for face.

Bangle bracelets- Easy to wear when hot. Less sticking to your skin.  This one is  made of Mango Tree wood .  These are super fun, tribal looking, comfy and inexpensive. I also have a faux Ivory $3 one from H&M years ago that I wear all the time.

Blue Topaz ring- Thankfully I bought good jewelry  back when it was really well priced . This ring came from QVC at least 10 years ago and is Blue Topaz set in sterling. I have another similar one but set in a simple band. These are great for summer as the blue pops with a tan, is a summer color and  they are bold enough  to stand without other jewelry or look great with bangles  .

Phyto Sun HaircareFor the past 2 summers the Phyto Plage Protective Sun Veil spray followed me to the pool. I use after swimming and run it through  my wet hair. It keeps it feeling soft and compensates for the drying and acidic effect of the water. If you have colored hair, it helps hold color in as well.

What are some of your summer staples?  I'd love to hear .

Guerlain Terracotta Gloss 2011

This year's Terracotta lipglosses from Guerlain are a trio of sheer brights . Part of the Terra Inca collection and LE , there's  a pink( Salsa), an orange ( Mambo) and  a red ( Tango).  Don't fear the  colors though, these go on sheer with a nice bit of color but nothing so bold as a regular gloss or lipstick.

I am fond of the orange Mambo, as not only is a great color on me, but it's a way to wear orange with  going  too bold.  I'll do bold on rare occasions. This orange can be brought out anytime. The one thing missing is SPF. Last year they had it, which was great. This year its not in there.  But it's simple enough to apply a lip balm with sunscreen underneath.

The glosses are  non sticky , and feel smooth and balm like on lips.

Terracotta Gloss is $ 30.50 and available  in May at Neimans, Saks , Nordstrom, Sephora and more.

Guerlain Rouge Automatique

Lipstick that's pretty and entertainment?  Guerlain's new Rouge Automatique fits the bill. While I love lipstick and I love Guerlain  and their lipsticks, the case is one that I keep fiddling with as it 's just fun.

The beautiful gold container has a slide mechanism that brings the lip bullet up or down. No cap. A top window opens and shuts. Like I said -fun.

Based on a design found in the Guerlain archives that dates to 1936, they tweaked it for modern  times and then named all the shades for their famous perfumes.

My shade is Chant D'Aromes, a fabulous medium nude beige  .

The lipstick itself is very creamy , soft and very light  on lips with  some shine . It's  not  satin but not too shimmery either.  Coverage is medium to full.
Although  said to be long lasting I only got about normal lipstick wear from mine. Meaning a couple hours. No matter, remember Rouge Automatique makes it fun to apply your lipstick  .

There are 25 shades in all and retail is $ 35.00

Guerlain Rouge Automatique- Preview

Coming next month is the new lipstick from Guerlain, Rouge Automatique.

Not only  does this lippie have a unique slide mechanism that brings up the lip bullet,  based on an old lipstick from the Guerlain archives circa 1936, but each shade is named after a famous Guerlain fragrance. So now you can wear Mitsouko and Vega on your lips.

The formula is said to be very moisturizing, have second skin texture on your lips and luminous , long lasting pigment. There are 25 new shades.

In stores in April and will retail for $ 35.00

I hope to have swatches soon. Stay tuned.

Guerlain has created 2 new shades of their Kiss Kiss Baby lip balm for the summer collection. These luxe balms have wild mango butter and Luffa oil for moisture and SPF 10 for sun protection. I loved these when they came out and you can read that first post here

Guerlain Terracotta 2010 Highlights

Gorgeous SPF infused glosses and a new tinted moisturizer are among the Guerlain Terracotta 2010 lineup.

The glosses have the aformentioned SPF 10 in them and very creamy and moisturizing. The colors are not sheer but not deep either, with very little shimmer. It's easy to see how nicely they will highlight tanned skin . They look great now, but with a self tan on, even better. They have a nice, fruity fragrance, not the Guerlain note and it's not strong. Shown are Grenade and Ebene.

The new tinted moisturizer is called Teint D'Ailleurs. This is light but not super sheer and packs plenty of moisture. It's part gel and part cream so not heavy in any way.

The Blonde shade I have is pretty deep but it blends down really well and leaves you with a well tanned glow and light, even coverage. This is quite pretty and can replace foundation on a casual day, be used with it , or mixed into yours.

Teint D'Ailleurs comes in 2 shades- Blonde and Brunette.

Retail is $ 46.00 for 1 oz.
Terracotta Gloss is $ 30.00

Guerlain New Rouge G Le Brilliant & Kiss Kiss Strass

January brings us new Guerlain lipsticks . In my world, thats cause for major excitement.

First up we have an addition to the Rouge G line called Le Brilliant. They have taken those luxe lippies and made them one better, with the additon of shimmer. I am liking the Le Brilliant even better than the original. That bit of shimmer seems to make them last longer, be more creamy and well, lets face it, I just like shimmer.

Shown are the shades Beatrix and Barbara. Beatrix is almost a lip tone, a pink lip tone, but light and just a swipe of tint and shimmer for your lips. Barbara was hard to get a good shot of. It's not as dark on as it appears in the photo. It's a medium , brown with a dash of plum.

Next up are Kiss Kiss Strass. The rest of the official description is " Crystal Shine , Shimmering Colors." That covers it well. These have loads of sparkle , are highly moisturizing and creamy. The pigment here is good, medium I would say. The lipsticks have 3 different kinds of Mother of Pearl for maximum shimmer .

Shown below are Rouge Broderie ( the pink one) and Brun Satin.

The Kiss Kiss Strass ($ 31.00)and Rouge G Le Brilliant ($ 46.00) have 10 new shades each.

Available now at Nordstrom, Saks, and more.

Best of Beauty 2009

It was a great year for beauty . It's never easy to pick the best of they year. The list could be big, but there will always be standouts among an already solid lineup.

Here is my tops of 2009 in no certain order and with links to my original post/review if there was one ( please add your favorites in comments, I'd love to know)

Kiehls Imperial Balm - This one is making every best of list. Does an amazing job on your skin and smells so darn good and spicy warm. I bought the Kusmi tea made to go with this, and it's just as good. The warmth sticks with you long after you're done sipping.

Rouge Allure Laque by Chanel - Gets not simply the best lipstick of the year but perhaps best ever, tied in the year end version with Lancome La Laque Fever, next on the list. Everything I ever wanted in a lippie. Creamy, shiny, lasting, smoothing , elegant, luxurious. The feeling I get when I use this can't be discounted. If a lippie makes you feel that good, it's worth the price.

La Laque Fever by Lancome - One of the best easily. Full coverage , long lasting but never uncomfortably dry. Makes your lips look like you lined them and took more time than you did . Every makeup kit needs one.

Lierac Diopti - I have recommended these to many. All have raved . A full eye care line , one for each issue and they can be combined. These work, the most important thing of all.

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Baby - A tinted balm from Guerlain. I swooned at the thought. Color, sparkle, moisture in that silver case. These are loaded with moisturizers and are not just a pretty case.

Heeley Ophelia Perfume- I smell a lot of perfumes. Any regular reader of this blog will know that. So for me to fall immediately for a perfume at first sniff and want to buy it on the spot means a lot. Such was the case with Heeley Ophelia. I didn't buy it ( at $ 175.00 it was simply too much a splurge at holiday time) but I am still smitten with the thought of it. I recall a big but light white floral . Not heavy, not cloying but beautiful. Fellow sniffers at Barneys seemed equally appreciative.

MAC Suntints- MAC Tendertones have made this list since the beginning. They are still one of the tops , but this year gave us Suntints. Tinted lip balm with SPF in a tube. Thank you MAC. Serious moisture with very light tint and a little shine , perfect for almost anytime .

Reviva Vitamin E Stick I blogged about this and then several months later it was in Lucky magazine. I am so way ahead folks ( well sometimes ). This little, $ 3.00 stick is power moisture for the eyes, lips or wherever you need it.

Dior Escale a Pondichery A fragrance for any and all times. I never need to think if I am in the mood to wear this , if it's too heavy or is just not going to sit right that day. It's always just right, and a little uplifting. I do wish it lasted longer but citrus types usually don't. More re-spritzing, that's all.

Bobbi Brown Chrome Eyeshadow- The Pewter shade is my standout . This color is so beautiful . It looks amazing on it's own or paired with any number of other shadows or liners. It flashes silver, grey, taupe , gold and looks like liquid metal. Hard to describe and very unique. One I reach for all the time. ( Gold shown in image)

As for last year's list, just in case you were wondering, I am still very enamored of those as well . Bobbi Brown Glitter Balms , and MAC Tendertones are among others could easily have made this list again.

Guerlain Kiss Kiss Baby Lip Balm

I'm in love..... with a lip balm. Not the first time this has happened, and most likely not that last, but Guerlain's new Kiss Kiss Baby will be hard to top .

You know by now my total adoration of tinted lip balms, and ones by Guerlain? All I can say is ooh la la.

Encased in the traditional Kiss Kiss tube, these beauties are a sheer-medium tint with shimmer, lots of moisture, and SPF. They have it all and are lighter on than they appear in the tube.

The color I have is Red Nude and I feel like at last I have a red I can wear. It's more than barely there but still not too much tint either. No need for perfect application, just swipe it on and go. No offense to basic balms, but this is going to look so chic when whipped out of your bag and applied. Very splurge worthy.

There are 6 shades including a clear Crystal Nude that just gives you shimmer. ( The main image is Rosewood Nude)

Ingredients include :

-Wild Mango Butter- infuses lips with moisture and suppleness.
-Luffa Oil- nourishes dried-out and chapped lips.
-Oligopeptides- (proteins + trace elements) increases volume and softness in lips.
-Sun Protection Factor 10

Shades:
200 Cristal Nude
241 Rosewood Nude
220 Red Nude
260 Romantic Nude
240 Honey Nude
261 Rosy Nude

Kiss Kiss Baby is $30.00 at select Saks Fifth Avenues, Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus’, and Bergdorf Goodman.

All My Corals

Corals are hot this year, Corals are hot period. I love them but confess I don't wear mine often enough. This summer I am trying to rectify that, so I thought I'd show some of my favorite Coral lippies. Some of these are put now, some were LE from previous year, but I love them so they're included.
Coral really is a huge trend for summer, so this is a great time to try them. Maybe you'll find one to love. If you already have a favorite, let me know in comments.

From left to right :

MAC Dazzleglass in Smile- a light but so pretty sheer coral/peach. Great on it's own or as a topper to a brighter coral. Lighter than it looks in photo.

MAC Aristo-Chic- This was part of an LE Christmas 2007 set. It's a brown/nude coral . Non shimmer and more muted than the brights.

Maybelline Peach Scene- This is from their new Color Sensational line. These new lippies are great and right up there with higher end ones in every way except price. Peach Scene is a bright peach/coral hybrid.

Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in Princess Grace Coral- Another LE from last summer. Created to honor Princess Grace, this one is the boldest of all of them I think, which might be fitting. So pretty, but a hard one for me to pull off.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Crystal in Crystal Coral- Full of shine and color. Also from last year but might still be available. If not, they should have one close in shade.

Gueralain Kiss Kiss Maxi Shine in Grenadine Shine- Another glossy coral. Loads of color , part of the Spring collection this year and on counters now.

Guerlain Rouge G in Gil- The ultimate of the corals in the most luxe case. This one is so creamy and the color so pure, but not too bright. Very wearable and blends so well with their sheer orange gloss in Orange Interdite.

Guerlain's Tiare Mimosa & Cherry Blossom Perfumes

In Spring Guerlain releases new additions to it's Aqua Allegoria line. This line is often called "starter" Guerlain. It's a much softer, more muted line of scents than many of theirs. That doesn't mean they can't be nice though.

This years two are Tiare Mimosa and Cherry Blossom.

Tiare Mimosa reminds me a bit of the suntan/beach scents out there like Azuree Soleil, or Bobbi Brown Beach. It is a much subdued version though and more floral than suntan. It's very much a mix of both the florals in it's name and is a bit sweet. It stays pretyy close to the skin. It's incredibly pretty if light. I love Tiare scents, so this is a keeper for me.

Cherry Blossom is lighter yet. Just a whisper of a scent . A fresh, feminine floral with a hint of powder , citrus and green tea. This also wears close to the skin , but again is a very pretty scent.

The Aqua Allegoria's are perfect for anyone who is looking for a light scent. Sometimes you simply don't want a strong perfume. Maybe you don't like them or the occasion calls for something soft. Summer tends to bring this thought to the forefront.
These can act almost as a body spray. I spritz 3-4 times and never feel it's too much. You can-re-apply later in the day as well.

Each is LE and $ 57.00 for 2.5 oz at Sephora and Guerlain Boutiques

Rouge G de Guerlain

New info on the new Rouge G de Guerlain luxe lipstick. It is now showing for sale online at Bergdorfs and Neimans.

It looks pretty amazing. Guerlain's current Kiss Kiss one are among the best , and this ups the ante. The case was designed by jeweler Lorenz Baumer. It opens to reveal a mirror on one side and then a compartment where the lipstick is . They say the magnetic case even has that sound of an antique powder compact being opened and closed.

The lipstick itself has a lot going on. There is hyaluronic acid for moisture, gugal resin for line filling, wild mango butter for hydration,Vitamin A and tiger grass for plumping, ruby mono- crystals ground into powder for extra radiance, and concentrated pigments combined with mother of pearl liquid which form an opaque film to reflect light.

There are 25 shades , 10 basic ones and 15 bolder ones.

There is even one called Guerlainade after the scent"signature" of the Guerlain Fragrance House. It's a neutral , and I will check it out soon.

Nadia is wearing No. 65 Grenade in the photo.

Retail is $45.00, which is a splurge, but a new and great lipstick like this might just be worth it.

Tops of 2007

Annie over at Blogdorf Goodman has organized her annual end of the year “ Best “ lists from fellow bloggers. I am happy to be here for my first year. Many of my favs are ones that I have reviewed in past posts, but at least you know I really do like/use what I talk about and review. The list tends to be fragrance heavy as well, but many good ones hits the stores this year. It is also not in any particular order.
Feel free to weigh in with your “ Best Ofs “, and Happy New Year.

Guerlain Iris Ganache- My favorite release of the year I think. Guerlain had some great releases, and this one I splurged on. Cool , crisp and ever so slightly gourmand. The ganache note is just the right touch of chocolate. Not heavy or cloying, but more pastry like. It blends with the chilled iris and lasts super long. Honorable mention goes to the company’s Spiriteuse Double Vanille, a stunning warm , smoky vanilla. I don’t normally go for vanilla, and the tobacco note is hard for me to like, but all together this is one winner.

Couvent des Minimes Hand Cream- At last years after Christmas sale at Bath and Body Works I got a tube of this. I had already gotten the gift set for 2 people. The holiday scent was orange cinnamon so I had to have it. I love it,as did every gift recipient. I think it’s even better than the original L’Occitane which this seems to be a copy of. Really rich but not greasy, it sinks in, smells wonderful and really gets the job done. I have since gotten backups in the Honey Lemon scent. At the sale this year they are in the 75% off bin and sell for 1.10. Well worth it, and since I think they may be being discontinued, stock up while you can.

Maybelline Superstay Silky Foundation- If someone had told me that I would try a Maybelline foundation, a non oil free one no less, and that it would turn out to be so good and make my skin look so perfected that people would tell me how good I looked, I would never have believed it. (Not that I have a bias against drugstore brands, I am a huge fan of L’Oreal Foundations). Maybelline has done some decent ones in the past but none have overwhelmed me until now. Superstay Silky is a base and foundation 2 part-er that comes out together. Sometimes I don’t even use the primer side, but either way my skin looks great, completely covered and not too heavily made up.

Nioxin Shampoo- I never thought I needed a specialized shampoo. I have easy to deal with hair, but after trying this I was amazed at how much better my hair looked, styled and most of all held on to color. They tell you this line is made for colcor rentention, and I never knew what a difference there was until I used this. Even my hairdresser noted how long the color lasted compared to previous times.

Mac Tendertones- MAC came out with a lot of goodies this year, and many are favs, but to pick one would be Tendertones. I have Purring, which has a just there orange tint, full of shine and some shimmer. Best of all they really moisturize. I love a good lip conditioner and these totally fit the bill. They have it all in one, and I think would be the only lip product you would need if, say, you found yourself in Aspen or Telluride, ready for skiing or sleighriding wrapped up in your shearling. Not that I’ll be there. Sounds good though, doesn’t it? . At least I do have a shearling and a sleigh.

By Kilian- one of the best perfume lines launched recently. Some have been put off by the pretentious sounding PR copy on the website, but forget all that. Kilian Hennessey is totally unlike that in person. He is very nice, and super informed about all things perfume. His line of six scents is fun, unique, sophisticated and smells great. Beyond Love is my favorite, a creamy tuberose with a hint of animalic notes that are barely perceptible.

Parfums MDCI- The best of the new releases, edging By Kilian just a bit. What a year to have 2 great French perfumes lines introduced and to have been fortunate to meet both Frenchman behind them. Claude Marchal is totally charming, and really wants people to love his perfume. His bottles are hand created works of art, and the fragrances within, worthy of the bottles. These say Tres Chic all the way. My favorite of the 3 is Rose de Siwa, I feel so elegant when wearing this.

Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick- It isn’t always easy to put a new spin on lipstick. Estee Lauder this year did it well. The new lipsticks are full coverage, super creamy and come in a wide choice of colors. They also have a very old school pretty case that has some good weight in your hand. Everyone I know who has tried them loves them.

Clarins Color Quench Balm- Hands down the best moisture giving, color depositing gloss/balm. Not new, but it was to me, as I got with a gift card after Christmas last year. Loaded with shea butter, it is super soft and creamy on, and will keep your lips moist all day, all winter. The line is also rich color drenched. You can get pale shades, as well as reds, oranges, and nice neutral browns like mine. At last a lipgloss that does it all. The color lasts long, and it has a great fruity scent.

Neil Morris’ Dark Season Perfume. This one makes it in under the gun, as I just got a sample this week. A winter comfort scent containing balsam fir needle, cinnamon, dark vanilla, myrrh and more. Inspired by a winter in Finland, with outdoors-y and indoors warm notes.

Johnson & Johnson Soothing Naturals Soothe and Protect Balm- a convenient stick that can be used on lips, hands etc. Great for when you don't want to apply hand lotion all over i.e after you just did your nails.

Clinique Zero Gravity Repairwear Lift Firming Cream- at last an anti-aging product that I can use all the time and not break out from as it comes in a version for combination oily-oily skin. I get the anti-aging benefits and some moisture but just a little. Perfect. It really does firm, and make the skin look good. My number 1 skin product right now.
