Himalaya Herbals Neem Face pack : ZAP 'EM ACNE AWAY !

Women have always tried to enhance their beauty. Cosmetics and skincare were an integral part of women's life since Prehistoric times.

Face Packs are used not only to cleanse your skin but also to maintain its firmness.Roman women also used face packs using ingredients like crocodile dung ( Eww! -- Anyway-- who has guts to collect croc dung!!)

Enough of history !! Let's come to my current favourite face pack of the month - Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Pack !!  Don't doubt me but I have been loyal to my Fuller's earth for ages now - Its the only thing that works on my oily/combination, acne prone skin.

Apart from Fuller's Earth - This product is one of best things that has happened to me ... hehehehe... Here's the review of face pack --

Product: Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Face Pack.

Price and Quantity: 115 INR for 100 gms.

Action:
Clears skin and prevents outbreak and recurrence of pimples.Rejuvenates and firms up the skin. Imparts natural glow. Antibacterialpurifying Neem Face Pack regulates excess oil secretion, cleans clogged poresand prevents recurrence of pimples. Improves skin texture. Neem, well known forits antibacterial properties, helps in controlling acne and pimples, and theirrecurrence. When combined with Turmeric, it effectively eliminates acne-causingbacteria. Fuller's Earth (Multani Mitti) cools and soothes the skin.

Indications:
Oily and Pimple-prone skin.

Ingredients Include:
               Azadirachta indica (Neem, Nimba)
               Panka (Fuller's earth, Multani Mitti)
               Curcuma longa (Turmeric, Haridra)

Use Directions:
Apply evenly over cleansed face and neck, avoiding the areaaround eyes. Allow it to dry for 10-15 minutes. Remove with wet sponge and washthe skin with cool water. Use once or twice a week.

My Take on the Product:

My dermatologist had advised me to use "Sandalwood powder" as a face pack everyday to dry up my sebum producing glands.

So apart from using Sandalwood powder, I apply this Face Pack twice a week.

This face pack comes in a handy tube like packaging with a green flip cap. The tube is to be squeezed to dispense the product.

The mask is thick and dark green in colour, with a strong herbal scent. While I'm okay with it, I suggest everyone to smell the product before you buy it.

I apply the face pack with a help of my face pack brush, spreading it on evenly. It makes me look like a green Alien Monster !!!.

I leave it on for about 20 minutes, and after it dries just wet it a little bit again to exfoliate before washing it thoroughly off.

The texture of the face pack is thick and rough with neem leaves in it hence it becomes easy to exfoliate your skin before completely removing the pack from your face.

So far the product has done excellent job of keeping my skin pimple free. It soothes the skin and helps to reduce the blemishes. It has a decent job of clearing your pores and help in oil control.

The best thing about this product is that it is cheap and easily available in local drugstores or hypermarkets. I also suggest using this product along with neem face wash and neem scrub. It works the best.

Please note: Product sent by the company's PR for consideration.

How many of you beauty's have tried this one ??? Did it work for you ?? Let me know !!

luv,
Rids

Himalaya Herbals Kajal

After using Lotus Kajal and the famous - Maybelline's Colossal Kajal for a while, I decided to give Himalaya Herbals Kajal a try . .

Kajal is very typical in Indian Makeup since the ancient times. Kohl or Kajal was majorly applied by the women in India - Besides women, small children and men also use to apply it as a protection from eye ailments.

Kajal use to provide relief from the sun's glare and was believed to ward off bad luck !!!It was traditionally prepared home - Of course now you can pick up kajal from any place.

So that's enough History of Kajal - Now coming back to our review - Today I will be reviewing Himalaya Herbals Kajal. It is surprising but I had not tried this kajal uptil now -- The first kajal I picked up belonged to Lotus Herbals and later I got hooked onto Maybelline's Colossal Kajal.

So when my package from Himalaya Herbals arrived, I was pleased to see this kajal in it. After trying this kajal for two weeks now - I am at the better position to review this product --- So here is my take on Himalaya Herbals Kajal

PRODUCT: Himalaya Herbal's Kajal
PRICE: 110 INR
QUANTITY: 2.7 gms

What the company claims?
Enriched with Almond oil that nourishes your eye, keeps them cool and makes you look fresh and bright.

Ingredients:
Almond oil, Castor oil, Camphor, Damask Rose and Triphala.

Direction for use:
Apply the kajal within the lash line.

The blackest of all kajals - Swatch of one swipe

Rub it once and it fades :(

What I like about the Product:

The kajal was indeed - Blackest of all the kajal's I have used so far. I loved the texture of the kajal as it goes on very smooth on my lower lash line and even on the upper eye lids.

The first thing I noticed when I applied the kajal was the cooling effect it had on my eyes. The camphor in the kajal is responsible for cooling effect it leaves when applied.

This kajal is indeed nourishing for your eyes when I look at the ingredients it has - Almond oil and castor oil is good and nourishing for your eyes. Castor oil helps in growth of eye lashes. Damask Rose helps in preventing over straining to your eyes. Triphala acts as an anti-inflammatory substance.

The product comes in a very handy - travel friendly packaging. The quantity is also nice - will last longer and won't get over that easily.

The only thing that bothers me is the staying power of the kajal... It gets smothered and smudges your eye area very easily.

I would recommend Himalaya Herbals to work on a smudge proof kajal which would be a BIG HIT !!

How many of you use this kajal ???

Himalaya Herbals Lip Butter

One more addition to my collection of lip balms and chapsticks - Himalaya Herbal's lip butter. I have used a variety of lip balms and chapsticks before - but this lip butter is the first one I  have ever used. Hence I was very curious when I received this one for review purposes.

What's the difference between Lip Balms and Lip Butters ?

The skin that cover's our lips are without the oil glands that prevent drying out the skin so we need to keep them moisturised and healthy at all times.

Lip Balms are more waxy in consistency that help prevent chapping, drying or cracking of lips.

Lip butters are thicker in consistency and contain no artificial ingredients. They are more moisturising than the lip balms.

PRODUCT: Himalaya Herbals Lip Butter
PRICE: 125 INR
QUANTITY: 10 gms

What the product claims?

A unique and luxurious blend of exotic butters that provides nourishing care, keeping your lips supple, smooth and healthy all day long.

Ingredients:
Cocoa Butter, Sal Butter, Kokum Butter, Mango Butter.

My take on the Product:

I am a basic kajal, eyeliner and lip balm/gloss person for most of the days. Hence it is obvious I have a stack when it comes to lip balms and chapsticks.

When I first eyed this product - I was very curious to use it because I had never used a lip butter before. So when I used it for the first time I definitely loved it because it is perfect for winters.

This product comes in a transparent tub like packaging with a green screw cap lid. If you open the lid, inside there's a white lid that fits into the mouth of the tub. It prevents the butter from drying out I guess.

I love the cocoa butter smell of the product.

The consistency of the lip butter is obviously very thick which makes it perfect for winter when my lips dry out immensely. I apply this butter before going to bed every night to find my lips moisturised and soft the next morning.

The lip butter stays on for hours after application which I like !!

The quantity provided is quite a lot - the product will stay for a long time.

What I dislike about the Product:

The price - It is expensive. Himalaya Herbals generally have affordable products.

You can't apply this lip butter during summers and other season - the thick consistency just won't work out in humid weather of Mumbai.

Also I hated it when it caused my hair to stick to my lip butter on the lips. I found that very irritating.

The product lacks SPF.

I personally do not prefer tub- like packaging. Dipping your fingers into the product is just very messy.

Love it Or Chuck it ?

I am in a love - hate relationship with this one. WHAT ABOUT YOU ???

Please note: The product was sent by the company's PR for consideration.

Himalaya Refreshing Fruit Pack

I was going through a very bad bouts of break-outs sometime ago and that was when my dermatologist suggested me to use face packs to soak up all the sebum from the oil glands of the skin. Since then I have been a regular user of face packs. Face packs have definitely improved my overall skin tone and also have helped me to control my oil glands of the skin.

I believe that if you are not a regular visitor of beauty parlors for regular clean ups and facial, you must definitely use face packs regularly at home which will cleanse your skin and also help in maintaining the firmness of skin. It also helps in maintaining your skin balance.

I have had oily skin for quite sometime now and I swear by the miracles of mud packs and Fuller earth. I am having an affair with them. I keep coming back to it no matter whatever new product I try. So when I was given the opportunity to use Himalaya Refreshing Fruit Pack - I was curious to see how it will work on my skin.

Product: Himalaya Refreshing Fruit Pack.
Quantity: 50 gms
Price: 60 INR

Action:
A unique formulation of natural ingredients that rejuvenates the facial skin. Enriched with Apple, a rich source of natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) that nourish and improve the skin glow. Fig and Cucumber, provide cooling effect to your skin. Papaya removes freckles and smoothens the skin. Fuller’s Earth soothes the skin and removes blackheads and deeply embedded impurities.

Usage:
Clean face and neck with Himalaya Herbals Deep Cleansing Milk. Apply Refreshing Fruit Pack evenly over face and neck, avoiding area around eyes and mouth. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes and remove with wet sponge/towel. Rinse with cool water. For best results, use once a week

 My Experience with the Product:
The face pack comes in a sturdy tube like packaging with a green flip cap. It is very travel friendly.
This product worked well on my skin. It did not do any wonders but I guess it will work better for normal to dry skin toned people.
The first time I applied it, I felt a tingling sensation on my face which was weird.Anyway - the pack was successful in firming my facial skin tone. It did not brighten up my skin or anything.
With regular use, this face pack is successful in smoothing your skin tone.
I could not test its claim of whether the face pack is successful in removing blackheads because I don't have any.
The texture of the pack is very creamy which effortlessly spreads onto your skin and has a nice cooling effect on your skin.
I love the smell of the face pack which is chiefly of apples and papaya.

Love it or chuck it ?
Its a good face pack for normal to dry skinned people. Regular usage will certainly show results.

Himalaya Revitalizing Night Cream

I am told that it's during the night that our bodies boot up up their restorative "programme". The human body is well made and takes advantage of this resting time to repair the damage caused by the day's external attacks.Cellular renovation activity reaches a peak between the hours of 2am and 4am.

I never use to apply Night cream earlier. It was only a few months ago that the trend of night creams took over and suddenly everyone started talking about Night care skin regime etc. Anyway!! I had heard many girls go gaga about the wonders of night cream - So I decided to try it out myself. My first Night cream was from Lakme. Sadly it did not suit me and caused breakouts.

After that I stopped immediately and never reverted to night creams again. When Himalaya sent me a few products I was bit skeptical seeing a night cream in the box. I was scared using it. One night I summed up my courage and applied a bit of this cream and what happened next - Read more ahead to find out - - - -

Product: Himalaya Revitalizing Night Cream.

Price: 90 INR Rupees.

Quantity: 25 gms.

Composition:
Each gram contains : Exts {Mahanimbu(Citrus grandis),Nimbaka(Citrus Limon), Tamatar(Solanum lycopersicum)} 30mg.Seva(Pyrus malus)30mg,Godhuma(Triticum sativum)20mg,Ksirakakoli(Lilum polyphyllum) 20mg.

Inactives:Phenoxyethanol, Methyparaben, propylparaben

Direction for use: apply on cleansed face and neck each night, when skin is most receptive for repair and renewal. On waking, your skin is soothed.

My Experience with the Product:
I liked this product. It is true to its claims and works fine on me.
I wash my face every night and then take a pea size amount and just pat the cream on my face. I have oily skin which is why I apply moisturizers very sparingly.
After patting the cream, I blend it into my skin. The cream blends into your skin easily and doesn't leave you skin feeling heavy.
The texture of the cream is very nice and light which makes this product best for combination/oily skin type. Dry skinned people can opt for Lakme Night cream which will suit perfect for their skin.
It does even soothes the skin, making it radiant in the morning.
I love the fact that the cream does not make my skin break out.
It is very economically priced.

Love it or chuck it ?
Absolutely worth a try. Take care that you don't dug into the tub if you don't have your hands clean. Its EEKS!!!!

What the product claims ?

Himalaya Intensive Moisturizing Body Lotion is a specially  formulated body lotion for dry skin. It intensely loisturizes, softens and smoothes your skin. My Take on the Product:
I absolutely love this product. I had picked up a similar product from my trip to Dubai. It is same as this one except that the other one is Body Butter and hence its consistency is thicker than this lotion.
I absolutely adore the yummy smell of cocoa butter which lingers on a moment and then fades away.
The consistency of the lotion is just right- not too thick and not too runny.
The lotion is beige in color which is absorbed easily into your skin.
It also does an excellent job of moisturizing your skin all day long. It is meant for dry and extra dry skinned people. I have dry skin on my body so this product suits me just fine.

Love it or chuck it ?
Absolutely love it !!! After St.Ives - this is one lotion which I absolutely loved. . . Do give it a try.

Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Scrub

I have never experimented with scrubs. I have sensitive skin type and I am very loyal to my St.Ives scrub which suits my skin best. Other scrubs I have tried have left my skin red and itchy. So when Himalaya Herbals sent me this scrub for review purposes - I delayed using this scrub until now recently.

I have started using this scrub since past few weeks and here's what I think of it - -

Product: Himalaya Herbals Purifying Neem Scrub.
Quantity: 100 gms
Price: 115 INR Rupees.

What company says about the product?
Himalaya's Purifying Neem Scrub removes impurities and dead skin cells. It also removes excess oil from the skin's surface, which is the root cause of acne.
The scrub is blended with the goodness of Neem, which clears blackheads and acne, and Apricot, which hydrates the skin. The natural ingredients cleanse, nourish and moisturize your skin to make it soft, fresh and radiant.

My Experience with the Product:
This product comes in a tube like packaging with a flip cap top. The consistency of this product is very creamy and light with green granules in it. You can also see few of apricot granules which are brown in color but they are very few of them.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the granules minute. The granules are very skin friendly and wont leave you bruised.
The mixture of neem and apricot in product makes it perfect for regular use on the face.  Apricot doesn't leave dry out your skin after use.
It gave me no side reactions. The antibacterial properties of neem certainly prevents formation of new breakouts.
The product is very travel friendly and the flip cap is tightly secured.
The effectiveness of this product can be improved if you use Himalaya Herbals Neem face wash and Neem face pack - For a complete and purifying skin care routine.
The product comes at a dirt cheap price.

Love it or chuck it?
Absolutely love it !! Do try it everyone.

Have you tried this product yet? ? Let me know what you think. . .

Himalaya Under Eye Cream

I have big dark circles... panda like !! So far I have tried Garnier roll on pen for dark circles – didn’t work. Before Himalaya herbals sent me this product to review, I was already using this one. So now after using this product for quite sometime now I think I am at the better position to review this product.

PRODUCT: Himalaya Under Eye Cream
PRICE: 150 Rupees
QUANTITY: It comes in a pack size of 15 ml.

COMPOSITION: Under Eye Cream contains the following ingredients: http://www.himalayahealthcare.com/images/blank.gif
Cipadessa baccifera moisturizes the skin under eyes
Bergenia ligulata lightens the skin under eyes
Triticum vulgare nourishes the skin under eyes

Himalaya Under Eye Cream - I was already using one.. Now i have two  :)

Swatch of the cream - It is beige in color.

MY TAKE ON THE PRODUCT:
This product comes in tube pack with green screw cap. The cream is beige in color and very light in consistency. I quite like the consistency of this cream. Other eye creams I used were kind of heavy and sticky so I used to apply them before going to sleep everyday.  This cream is light and is absorbed very quickly into the skin. I apply the cream now during day time too.

This product does not completely erase away your dark circles. But it is successful in smoothening area under the eye.

The herbal blend of the ingredients does not sting your eye and do not cause any allergic reactions.

The cream also goes on sheer under your eye inspite of being beige in color. I use this cream before putting up eye makeup. It moisturises the area well.

It is also very cheap compared to other eye creams available in the market.

This cream will be good for people who are just starting to develop dark circles because this cream definitely prevents the formation of dark circle.

Love it or chuck it?
I will pass this one.

Please note: This product was sent by the company's PR for consideration.

Himalaya 's Protective Sunscreen Lotion

As soon as i chucked out my Garnier sunscreen bottle, i turned to Himalaya's Sunscreen and for using it for 2 weeks.. i am quite satisfied by how the product works out. .

PRODUCT: Himalaya Herbal's Protective Sunscreen Lotion.
QUANTITY:  100 ml
PRICE: 175 rupees.

Look at the product:

This product comes in a small white bottle with green flip cap top. The flip cap is very secure and tight which makes this product very travel friendly. The bottle comes packed in a small carton box which has lots of information printed about the product on all its sides. Here's what the box says - -

My take on the product:

I am completely in love with this product. Even though it has major disadvantages.
I love the fact that this lotion goes on completely matte on my skin.
It is very non- oily and  is quickly absorbed into the skin.

swatch of the lotion - when its spread onto the skin.. it goes on white and then quickly absorbed into the skin

Lotion absorbed into the skin. :)

I also am completely in love with the herbal smell of the product.
I love the fact that this sunscreen does not precipitate at the mouth of the bottle like other sunscreens do.
It also is successful in keeping the skin moisturized throughout the day.
Extra plus points for Cinnabloc - an herbal extract which the brand claimed to have applied for U.S. Patenting.

Not so good points:
Spf 15 is too low for mumbai summers. It would be good if the brand introduced another sunscreen with higher spf protection.
This sunscreen is not water resistant.
It contains parabens as their inactive ingredients.

Love it or buy it ?
I will definitely use this sunscreen for all seasons except summers.

Please note: The product was sent by the company's PR for consideration.

Himalaya Lip Balm - Treat for Lips

Today I will be reviewing Himalaya Lip balm. A good lip balm is a “must” for any girl’s vanity. I use a lip balm throughout the year – the difference is the textures of the lip balms which vary with the season. I need a heavy duty lip balm like Nivea in winter bcoz they are absolute saviors from dry chapped lips in winter; although they are greasy and thick in texture they tend to last longer on my lips in winter. Rest of the year, I use nice light textured ones – and this lip balm from Himalaya is just perfect for summers.

PRODUCT - Himalaya Lip Balm
PRICE – 20 Rupees  (dirt cheap !)
QUANTITY - It is available in a tube of 10 gms.

COMPOSITION –  (from the website of Himalaya Herbals)

Lip Balm contains the following ingredients: http://www.himalayahealthcare.com/images/blank.gif
Ricinus communis (Castor, Eranda) oil is used externally to relieve various inflammatory conditions of the skin and mucus membrane.
Cocos nucifera (Coconut, Narikela) oil extract is a good emollient and can be used externally for softening the lips. The oil extract is used in various cosmetics.
Triticum sativum (Common Wheat, Godhuma) oil is a rich natural source of vitamin E, which nourishes and prevents loss of moisture from the skin. It is used to tone and soften the lips. It has a potent antioxidant activity.
Wrightia tinctoria (Sweet Indrajao, Hyamaraka) leaves are used in various skin disorders including herpes. It has astringent and anti-inflammatory activities and is used as an antibacteial in several skin disorders.
Daucus carota (Carrot, Garijara) seed oil is used as a sunscreen and fragrance component in soaps, creams and lotions.

MY TAKE ON THE PRODUCT:

I have been using this balm for a week now and it proudly rests on my dresser table for everyday use.  It comes in a tube like packaging with green screw cap. The slanted tip of the tube makes it convenient for easy application.
I like the transparent gel like consistency of the balm which is light in texture.
I am also a huge fragrance junkie and this balm smells just divine of minty bubblegum like smell.
It does a nice job of nourishing dry and chapped lips.  Since it contains SPF factor.. it makes the lip balm perfect for use in summers too.
The price and the packaging are just a HIT !!  Super cheap and easy to carry around anywhere you go . .
This lip balm however will not work for me in winters when my lips become very dry.
This lip balm also gets over very easily since you need to re-apply it after every few hours.

Love it or chuck it?
Definitely worth a try – perfect for people who don’t suffer from super dry, chapped and cracked lips. It is perfect to use it in summers.

Have you tried this lip balm yet? What do you think ?

Please note: The product sent by the company's PR for consideration.

PRODUCT: Himalaya Herbals Protein Conditioner
TYPE:  For Normal Hair
PRICE & QUANTITY: 70 Rupees for 100 ml

What the product claims?
Enriched with extracts of protein-rich herbs, our new conditioners nourishes your hair giving you the three essential benefits that your hair needs - strength, reduced hair fall and protection from everyday damage.
A gentle formulation that conditions and keeps your hair silky smooth, soft and tangle-free. Nourishes your hair with natural proteins giving it a healthy shine.

Key ingredients:
China Rose & Lotus: Effective natural hair and scalp conditioners.
Chickpea & Oat: Rich sources of natural proteins.

My take on the product:
ON THE SHAMPOO:
I am very much into the smell of this product. It is just right – herbal and mild and not over empowering. The good thing about this shampoo and conditioner is that the active ingredients are all herbal.
I like the fact that I can use this shampoo everyday – since its a mild gentle shampoo. It is perfect for summers when my hair turns greasy due to sweat, dust and pollution almost everyday.  It does the job of cleaning the hair all naturally.
It is good to see an Indian brand launching shampoo for oily hair – Kudos for the effort!
I have dry scalp so I use moisturising shampoo – but I will definitely use this for the summers so that I can shampoo my hair frequently.
Another nice thing about this product is that it is safe to use on artificially colored or permed hair. This shampoo will be great to wash your hair after you have them colored. I use henna to colour my hair and this shampoo is great to wash my hair right after I rinse the henna off.
The herbal ingredients do not compromise on the cleansing ability of the shampoo and it is successful in effectively removing the dirt and oil from my hair.

ON THE CONDITIONER:
A conditioner is a must for my hair after shampooing since it keeps my hair soft, manageable and tangle free.  This conditioner is successful in serving all the three purposes.
The one thing I noticed on the product was that it is a scalp conditioner. It says on the directions that you need to massage the conditioner onto your scalp and wet hair. I have not tried applying this conditioner on the scalp simply because I think the rule is NOT to apply conditioner on scalp. Let me know if you have applied this on your scalp. Does it make any difference?
Anyways, this conditioner is also gently formulated with active herbal ingredients –making it safe to use it frequently.
The conditioner is creamy thick and white in color. It also coats the hair tips well and after rinsing it off the water, the hair is soft and manageable and tangle free.
It also smells nice and like a typical herbal product. The fragrance lingers on for a moment.

Love it or chuck it? –
I would say love it ... will definitely buy it when I need a break from my other shampoo. It is also great for women who would like to go – ORGANIC!  :)
